Bukedea Comprehensive School crowned USSSA Volleyball champions, seal FEASSA 2026 qualification

Bukedea Comprehensive School has officially been crowned champions of the girls’ volleyball competition at the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) National Ball Games II, with Seroma Christian High School-Mukono finishing second and Katikamu SDA School taking third place.

The three schools have now secured Uganda’s slots at the 23rd Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games set for Morogoro, Tanzania.

The decision was confirmed during the first USSSA preparatory meeting ahead of the FEASSA Games held on Tuesday, July 22, 2026, at the USSSA offices in Old Kampala.

It should be noted that the girls’ volleyball final at the recently concluded USSSA National Ball Games II in Gulu was never played after St. Elizabeth Girls School-Mbarara failed to present its team on court for the championship match against Bukedea Comprehensive School at Gulu High School.

Bukedea had reached the final following a walkover in the semi-finals after Amus College School failed to honour their fixture, while St. Elizabeth Girls School had defeated Seroma Christian High School to book a place in the final.

Due to the indiscipline that characterized the girls’ volleyball competition, USSSA withheld the presentation of the championship trophy during the official closing ceremony in Gulu pending further guidance.

During Tuesday’s preparatory meeting, several games teachers sought clarification on Uganda’s representatives in the girls’ volleyball category for the forthcoming FEASSA Games.

Following consultations, Rev. Dr. Canon Duncan Mugumya, the Commissioner for Physical Education and Sports at the Ministry of Education and Sports, gave the green light to the USSSA Competition Committee to officially award the championship to Bukedea Comprehensive School.

The committee also confirmed Seroma Christian High School-Mukono as silver medalists and Katikamu SDA School as bronze medalists, meaning the three schools automatically qualify to represent Uganda at the FEASSA Games in Morogoro, Tanzania.

Meanwhile, St. Elizabeth Girls School-Mbarara and Amus College School have been referred to the USSSA National Disciplinary Committee over the incidents that affected the smooth completion of the girls’ volleyball competition.

Receiving the championship trophy from Rev. Dr. Canon Duncan Mugumya and USSSA President Justus Mugisha, Prof. Jonas Gumisiriza, the Managing Director of Bukedea Comprehensive School, expressed delight at the official confirmation of his school’s achievement.

“We are glad to be crowned champions for the third time in a row. We are carrying this momentum to Morogoro to make Uganda proud,” said Gumisiriza.

The confirmation now clears the way for Bukedea Comprehensive School, Seroma Christian High School-Mukono and Katikamu SDA School to begin final preparations for the FEASSA Games, where they will fly Uganda’s flag in the girls’ volleyball competition.
