Glasgow Confirmed as Host City for 2026 Commonwealth Games

The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has announced  Glasgow as the official host city for the 2026 Commonwealth Games. Scheduled to take place from Thursday, July 23, to Sunday, August 2, 2026, this will mark the return of the Games to Scotland, 12 years after the highly successful 2014 edition.

Glasgow 2026 will feature a robust 10-sport programme, centered across four key venues within an eight-mile radius, offering an immersive multi-sport experience and ensuring an engaging broadcast schedule for global audiences. The event will cater to spectators eager to enjoy the vibrant festival atmosphere and world-class sports.

The Games will host approximately 3,000 elite athletes from up to 74 Commonwealth nations and territories, representing over 2.5 billion people.

Over 500,000 tickets will be available, ensuring wide access to the Games. A distinctive feature of the Commonwealth Games, Para sports will once again be fully integrated into the competition, with six Para sports on the programme.

The sports line-up for Glasgow 2026 includes; Athletics and Para Athletics (Track & Field), Swimming and Para Swimming, Artistic Gymnastics, Track Cycling and Para Track Cycling, Netball, Weightlifting and Para Powerlifting, Boxing, Judo, Bowls and Para Bowls, 3×3 Basketball and 3×3 Wheelchair Basketball

The competition will unfold across four prominent venues: Scotstoun Stadium, Tollcross International Swimming Centre, Emirates Arena (including the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome), and the Scottish Event Campus (SEC). Athletes and support staff will stay in hotel accommodations, offering convenience and proximity to the venues.

The 2026 Commonwealth Games will inject over £100 million of inward investment into Glasgow and is expected to generate over £150 million in added economic value for the region.

Notably, the event will not require public funding for its delivery, thanks to a carefully designed model. Additional multi-million-pound investments will be made in upgrading public sporting facilities, alongside city-wide activation projects.

The branding for Glasgow 2026 has also been unveiled, featuring a logo that integrates elements of Glasgow’s iconic landmarks. Inspired by the River Clyde, the Finnieston Crane, and the Clyde Arc, the logo embodies the convergence of sport and culture at the heart of the Games.

For the first time, the logo incorporates the Commonwealth Sport logo, reinforcing the significance of the Commonwealth Games within the broader Commonwealth Sport Movement.

The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games promise to be one of the biggest sporting events in the United Kingdom, blending athletic excellence with a celebration of Glasgow’s rich cultural heritage.
