Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) President Robert Jjagwe has publicly called for an apology from African Table Tennis Federation (ATTF) President Nigeria’s Wahid Enitan-Oshodi following what Jjagwe described as an “unprovoked attack” during the recent ATTF Annual General Meeting (AGM).
In a social media post, Jjagwe expressed frustration with Wahid’s remarks, which allegedly criticized his marketing efforts and his outspokenness.
In his detailed post, Jjagwe compared the growing success of youth football in Uganda, which draws substantial crowds and online viewership, with the poorly organized African Continental Table Tennis Championship currently happening in Ethiopia.
He pointed out several issues with the event, including poor video broadcast quality, lack of spectators, and inadequate power backup, despite a large budget allocation.
Jjagwe took issue with Enitan-Oshodi Wahid’s assertion that he “talks too much” and lacks marketing expertise.
He reminded Wahid and others of the significant strides made under his leadership in Uganda, including; Effective live broadcasts of local table tennis competitions, with high-quality videos available on UTTA’s YouTube channel.
The promotion of young Ugandan players such as Joseph and Patience, Manufacturing table tennis equipment locally, generating revenue to support players, Securing increased government funding for table tennis in Uganda, from $0 in 2014 to $85,000 annually.
Developing the first-ever marketing strategy for table tennis in Africa and Creation of the first ever office for Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA).
Jjagwe also criticized the long-standing failures of the ATTF Executive Board, of which Enitan-Oshodi Wahid has been a member for years, for failing to address key issues such as securing substantial sponsors and improving the organization of major African competitions.
The UTTA president concluded by stating that Enitan-Oshodi  Wahid’s remarks, made during the AGM after Jjagwe’s election loss, were hurtful and inappropriate.
He believes that Wahid campaigned against him and questioned the transparency of the election process.
Jjagwe has demanded a formal apology from Wahid, accusing him of trying to undermine his years of dedication and contributions to African table tennis.
“I demand an apology from Enitan-Oshodi  Wahid. His attack on me, after everything I have done to grow this sport, was totally out of order and uncalled for,” Jjagwe stated.
He urged Enitan-Oshodi Wahid to take responsibility and apologize for his conduct if he values good governance.
This dispute comes at a critical time for African table tennis, with both the sport’s leadership and its future direction under intense scrutiny.
