“I am humbled and feel a great sense of pressure now that the dream of Seroma Christian High School hosting the USSSA-National Swimming Championship 2025 has come true, and we have achieved this milestone,” said Amelia Kyabandde, the Resident Director of Seroma Christian High School, after the announcement.

She assured Ugandans and participating schools that the upcoming event would be a success and that participants should expect an even more vibrant atmosphere compared to what they experienced during the 4th edition.

On Friday, October 18th, 2025, Sam Odong, Assistant Commissioner of the Ministry of Education and Sports, officially announced that Seroma Christian High School had been awarded the hosting rights for the 5th edition of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA)-National Swimming Championship 2025. Seroma beat out Bukedea Comprehensive School in a closely contested bidding process.

Amelia Kyabandde, along with the school’s Sports Director, celebrated the victory with enthusiasm, promising full commitment to ensure a top-tier event. The students, upon hearing the news, rejoiced and expressed their gratitude to Kyabandde, particularly praising her powerful PowerPoint presentation that helped secure the bid.

This marks the second time Seroma Christian High School will host the prestigious swimming event, having successfully organized the 3rd edition of the USSSA Swimming Gala on July 27th, 2024. Seroma was selected after a rigorous bidding process, with Janan Secondary School, Bombo, as the other contender. Following inspections and a presentation to the USSSA and Ministry of Education and Sports Committee, Seroma was chosen to host.

Kyabandde has consistently highlighted that the Ministry’s decision to award hosting rights is based not only on a school’s existing infrastructure but also on its plans to meet the tournament’s requirements and the commitment of all stakeholders involved. Recently, a delegation from USSSA and PES, led by USSSA 2nd Vice President Bitek and Brenda Asiimwe, visited the school to inspect the facilities, including the swimming pool, hotels, and other amenities crucial to hosting the event.

In her interview with Wallnetnews after the announcement, Kyabandde reflected on the competition with Bukedea Comprehensive School and emphasized Seroma’s focus on ensuring the best possible experience for all participants. “We are fully committed and will ensure that the 2025 USSSA-National Swimming Championship is a memorable event for everyone involved,” she stated.

With Seroma’s proven track record and continued commitment to excellence, expectations are high for the 2025 championship.
