A section of youths subscribed to PLU (Patriotic League of Uganda) from Ankole Sub-Region have appealed to H.E. the President of Uganda and Command-in-chief, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to allow  his son Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba to retire from active military service so that he can further engage in countrywide consultations ahead of the 2026 general elections.
In a statement released by the PLU Youth League of Ankole, they have applauded the President of Uganda for the fundamental leadership, contribution and achievements he has renderted to Ugandans and Africa at large ever since he assumed the leadership of this country from 1986. However, these youth believe that the great leadership of the mighty president and his image is going to be tainted if he doesn’t agree to hand over leadership come 2026.
In the same document addressed to the journalists during a press briefing on Thursday, August 8, 2024 presented by Bruce Ainomugisha, who led the PLU Youth League of Ankole stated and quoted  that on several occasions, the president has himself made it clear that if he finds a suitable leader, elected by the people, he will have no reason to keep in power. They further quote that when he was in Luwelo, he made it clear that he would not hand over power to wolves, but rather to a patriot who would emerge in democratic elections.
Basing on the above background, the PLU Youth believe that Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba is the suitable candidate to hold the mantle of the next president.
“We all know that Gen. Muhoozi has always served with great excellence wherever he has been requested to go and serve. In Muhoozi we believe he can continue the development and progress that associate with President Museven’s tenure, ensuring stability and continuity in governance through consolidation of the revolutionary achievement” stated by the PLU Youth League of Ankole
The PLU  Youth league  of Ankole are optimistic that the generation President Gen. Muhoozi will strongly fight corruption that has become rampant and a very big problem to this country causing financial and economic crisis to the nation.
“As Young patriots, we do not believe that even President Museveni or the Opposition can fight corruption because the people around the president have literally taken him hostage, turning him into a state captive where they are now untouchables. This is the reason why in some important issues related to corruption, he fears to take groundbreaking decisions and in the end what goes around comes around as it has been witnessed with some of the key suspects who have been released on bail despite the Executive directive against the same. This has made worse by the high rate of unemployment, land grabbing and many other pressing issues” said PLU of Ankole Youth League
“Therefore, as PLU patriots, in agreement with other sections of society such as the young people or Gen Z, the old generation, civil society, NRM supporters, those who do not support NRM, and all those who have been supporting peaceful transition/ transfer of power to the next leader in a very stable way, we call upon and appeal our greater panAfricanist Gen. Museveni to seriously consider handing over power to able and appropriately elected leader in 2026”  they added
