For the first time in the history of Eastern Uganda, particularly the Teso Zone, a regional schools tournament will be jointly hosted by Bukedea Comprehensive School and Amus College School.

The event, scheduled to take place from August 16th to 27th, 2024, marks a significant milestone for the two schools and the region.

This tournament is set to highlight the growing integration of the East African Community (EAC), bringing together participants and spectators from various countries.

The joint hosting of this prestigious tournament by Bukedea Comprehensive School and Amus College School is a first for the Teso Zone.

It underscores the region’s increasing importance and capability in hosting large-scale events, providing an excellent platform for showcasing local talents and fostering regional cooperation.

A sports enthusiast speaking to Wallnetnews expressed that both private schools hosting the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) games is “a good thing” for the Teso Zone and the region at large.

The event is seen as a step forward in promoting regional unity and showcasing the cultural and athletic talents of East African students.

The tournament has already begun attracting a significant influx of participants and supporters.

Visitors, including teams, coaches, and supporters from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and other East African countries, have started arriving in Mbale, Kumi, and Bukedea.

This influx has led to a surge in accommodation bookings, with hotels and guesthouses seeing a rise in reservations.

Accommodation Surge: Accommodation rates have reportedly doubled, with prices increasing from UGX 20,000 to UGX 50,000 per night due to high demand.

This rise highlights the significant economic impact the tournament is having on the local hospitality industry.

The local business community is experiencing a boom, with numerous opportunities arising for local companies and vendors.

Food sellers, in particular, are preparing to cater to the visitors, with popular local dishes like “Chicken Alot” expected to be in high demand.

Additionally, vendors of soft drinks and other refreshments are gearing up for increased sales.

The transportation sector, including Boda Boda services, is also seeing increased activity. Rates for Boda rides have risen from UGX 2,000 to UGX 5,000 and UGX 10,000 compared to the journey reflecting the increased demand for transport services.

The recent successful hosting of the USSSA-National Ball Games Two qualifiers at Teso College-Aloet left the community eager for more events.

The positive experiences and economic benefits from that event have set high expectations for the upcoming FEASSA games.

The community is enthusiastic about the potential for further economic gains and the opportunity to showcase the region’s hospitality.

In interviews with Wallnetnews, fans expressed excitement not only for the sports events but also for the economic opportunities they bring.

Many locals see the tournament as a chance to promote Teso Zone as a hub for regional events, hoping that the success of this tournament will lead to more such events in the future.

Meanwhile, the upcoming regional schools tournament hosted by Bukedea Comprehensive School and Amus College School is more than just a sports event; it is a landmark occasion for the Teso Zone, marking its emergence as a significant venue for regional competitions.

The economic benefits and cultural exchanges anticipated from the tournament are already evident, promising a bright future for the region in hosting major events.

As the FEASSA games approach, the community’s anticipation and excitement continue to build, setting the stage for a memorable and impactful event.
