In just a few hours, the Boxing Road to Paris 1st World Qualification Tournament will get underway in Busto Arsizio, Italy, at the E-Work Arena from March 3rd-11th 2024.

An impressive lineup of 632 athletes (399 men and 233 women) from 112 NOCs and the Boxing Refugee Team, as well as Individual Neutral Athletes will compete for 49 Paris 2024 Olympic quota places across 13 weight categories (7 Men’s events with 28 available quota places and 6 Women’s events with 21 available quota places).

Uganda boxers renew quest for Paris Olympic quotas in Italy with Experienced boxer like Tukamuhebwa Joshua is among the three men Ugandan contenders and one female boxer Nakalema Emily vying for spots at the Paris Olympics in the inaugural World Qualification Tournament set to commence in Busto Arsizio, Italy this Sunday.

Uganda is represented by three men and one lady, all aiming to secure coveted Olympic berths at the qualifiers organized by the Paris 2024 Boxing Unit (PBU), established by the International Olympic Committee Executive Board.

With 49 quota places up for grabs, reaching the semifinals guarantees a boxer a ticket to Paris. However, in the women’s 60kg category, a box-off between the semifinalists will decide the three available spots.

The tournament features top-notch pugilists such as Colombia’s Yuberjen Martinez, Japan’s Tomoya Tsuboi, Kazakhstan’s Makhmud Sabyrkhan and Venezuela’s Yoel Finol, alongside India’s Bhoria, Hussamudin and Dev.

Athough the tournament presents a crucial opportunity for boxers to qualify for the paris games, the last chance will come with the qualifying event in Thailand in May-June 2024.

Uganda which sent three boxers in the Tokyo Olympics, secured nothing due to bad preparations.
