The Uganda national ludo team “The Doves” that was flagged off from the National Council of Sports with no single funding but kept on promises has won the 2022 world championship.
The three-day competition which diced off on Tuesday, November 29th with twelve nations saw Nepal, Pakistan, Uganda, and Bangladesh reaching the semis which were played in Dubai City after qualifiers in Nepal.
Despite the travel uncertainties in the Doves camp due to lack of funds from the National Council of Sports, the team flew the Ugandan flag high as they continued to show their master of class at Semi finals and finals in Dubai.
The Doves managed to score 16 goals in the entire tournament, opening their account with a 3-1 victory over Saudi Arabia in their opening Group A fixture, drew 2-2 with Pakistan, and later kept a clean sheet 4-0 against United Arab Emirates.
Onto the semi final stages, Uganda cruised with ease past Bangladesh in a 4-0 victory the team that had topped Group B with 7 points.
The Doves were unbeaten but it took the efforts of the experienced players like Emmanuel Mubiru and Nagadya to fight and make Uganda walk away with the World title.
The closing and award ceremonies were presided over by Alfad Mohammed, the chairman of the local organizing committee who is also the Federation president, alongside Kalule Husein the ILF Vice President on behalf of Bhagwan Prasad Sahu, ILF President.
Meanwhile, Uganda and South Africa are the only countries that represented the African continent.
