The Uganda national netball team She Cranes head coach Fred MUGERWA has named a final strong 17 players squad for Commonwealth Games in Birmingham headlined by new youngstars.
The team that entered residential training camp this week on Monday at Nakirebe was selected based on their performance and the coordination they had in the training, Wallnetnews website talking to Mugerwa believes they are going to give us the best, as you see, the majority of the players are the ones we had in Pent series and Africa Netball championship apart from the two professionals players Captain Peace Proscovia and Mary Nuba Cholohk who were on duty for there clubs in the Vitality Netball league in United Kingdom.
“We entered residential training on Monday and we are doing well, the purpose of having this residential is the players to continue bond together, concentrate on one thing, trying them at different positions, trying different combinations and that’s what we are going to to concentrate on the most in this few remaining days.” said Mugerwa.
Hanisha Muhameed Nakaate among the new faces on team at the Commonwealth Games expressed her excitement to be among the final to represent the nation at a top level competition.
“Am happy that I am going to commonwealth games for my first time, as player to prove my worthy and fight for my nation and make it proud and lift the flag high.” Said Hanisha.
Uganda is drawn in Pool B alongside with defending champions and host England, New Zealand, Malawi, Trinidad and Tobago plus Northern Ireland while Pool A comprise of Australia, Jamaica, South Africa, Scotland, Wales and Barbados.
It should be noted that Uganda will start their campaign against New Zealand on July 30th and will conclude their group with a tie against Malawi on August 4th 2022.
Meanwhile, The team is expected to fly out to Birmingham on July 20th .
