Passengers to use Lake Victoria as alternative route to Masaka

Passengers to use Lake Victoria as alternative route to Masaka

The government of the republic of Uganda has come up with an alternative route to Masaka city via Lake Victoria following the washing away of Katonga Bridge by torrential rains last week.

Ministry of works and transport has confirmed that MV Kalangala will be transporting people and cargo from Nakiwogo via Kalangala to Masaka, while MV NODL-Victoria will be going directly to Bukakata still in Masaka.

The ministry has however clarified that MV Kalangala vessel will only be making one trip in a day and thus advised passengers to plan for their journeys well.

This alternative plan by government comes after the closure of Kampala-Masaka Highway after severe floods caused by torrential rains washed away a section of Katonga Bridge last week.

This is as a result of complaints that the available diversionary route via Mpigi-sembabule road is longer in distance.
