No asbestos: Main Street Primary School stakeholders to hold marathon

Main Street Primary School management and PTA in conjunction with the old students have officially unveiled a marathon dubbed “No asbestos”, an endeavor aimed at raising funds to roof six buildings including the school pavilion.
The marathon will take place in the heart of Jinja city on Saturday, February 17th, 2024.
According to the chairperson Mbentyo Mohammed, they came up with this collective effort to curb the health implications of asbestos and to improve the learning environment of pupils in the school.

“As you are aware, government banned the use of asbestos because this kind of roofing can lead health conditions including cancer. It is on that background that we appeal to our old students and well-wishers of the school to join this campaign so that we can make the learning environment of the next generation secure.
Each participant in the marathon will be required to pay UGX 25,000 which comes with a kit and UGX 5,000 for pupils, accompanied a school branded water bottle, Mbentyo also revealed
Florence Nabukwasi the school’s head teacher expressed gratitude about the different stakeholders coming together to push this cause.

“We are happy that the school management committee and PTA sat and came up with this important campaign and as a school we are very blessed to have such supportive teams.”
She also thanked Jinja city council who earlier did some work in the same respect and believes the work can be finished.

Main Street Primary School has a primary and nursery section with an enrollment of 1,345 and 36 teachers.
Since its inception in 1936, Main Street Primary School has natured has nurtured a number of people including Uganda’s top businessman Sudir Rupaleria and Hared petrol stations proprietor, Hared Musa.
