NCS cash Bonanza: Please resign and cough the government monies

By Emmanuel Sekago

Last week we updated you on the findings in the National Council of Sports  (NCS) cash bonanza.

In our episodes we have been unearthing how NCS submitted an accountability report that it paid people monies for the Birmingham Commonwealth games 2022 allowances yet some never stepped at the games.

We told you how the late Michael Mukalazi (RIP) also a former employee of NCS was paid Ugx95m yet he never traveled and was hospitalized at the time.

We concluded by informing you that more revelations of what transpired at the commonwealth games in Birmingham and Islamic games in Turkey are in the offing.

We also revealed to the nation more information on the cash bonanza NCS employees who received allowances but never stepped at the Islamic games in Turkey, a one Ibrahim Kiiza who works as an accounts assistant on the document received Ugx12,350,000 allowances for the Islamic games in Turkey and Tucungwire Raymond who is the acting senior internal auditor received Ugx19, 292,000.

The question on everyone’s lips is where did they put the allowance monies allocated to them? If surely they say they traveled, can they produce the copy of their boarding passes, hotel room receipts, and produce travel passports for scrutiny so as to clear their names off the cash bonanza scandal?

It’s really absurd that the people who masters in asking and putting on pressure the sports federations and associations to submit proper accountabilities are the same playing around miss using the government funds meant for sports, leaving federations and associations presidents cry to extent the stakeholders and players thinking that they receive funds yet nothing and people within national council of sports are busy enjoying.

It should be noted that Uganda commemorated the anti-corruption day with the theme: “Citizens must own the war to eliminate corruption – it is their war.”

This week the Parliamentary select committee on the inquiries into the operations of National Council of Sports (NCS) visited sporting federations and associations like, Federation of Uganda football associations (FUFA), Uganda Boxing federation (UBF), Uganda Netball Federation (UNF), Uganda Table Tennis associations (UTTA) to mention but a few few.

Meanwhile, they are seeking all the necessary support and information as they make inquiries into the operations of the NCS .

Can people who received government funds and never made it to games resign and cough it and let it be a lesson to others if we are to fight corruption in sports?
