Museveni to host FEASSA 2023 schools champions at State-House

President Yoweri Museveni will host the Uganda secondary schools sports association (USSSA) schools that represented the country at the Federation of east africa schools sports associations (FEASSA) games 2023 held in Huye, Rwanda.

The function is organised to congratulate the  Uganda secondary schools representatives and champions for the  great performance that saw Uganda as a country retain the FEASSA overall trophy on the soil of Rwanda. It will be held tomorrow (Wednesday) November 8th 2023 at State House, Entebbe starting Midday.

Uganda was crowned the overall champions of the 20th edition of the East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games as the 14-day regional schools’ sports bonanza came to a climax in Huye, Rwanda on August, 27th 2023.

In total, Uganda managed a total of 37 medals; of these 17 were gold, 11 silver and 9 bronze, Kenya followed suit with 23 medals in total; 8 gold and silver apiece as well as 7 bronze, yet hosts Rwanda followed suit with 12 medals; 4 silver and 8 bronze while Tanzania returned home with three medals  with 2 silver and 1 bronze.

It should be noted that Uganda dominated Swimming both boys and girls, Table Tennis both boys and girls, Football both boys and girls, Badminton both boys and girls, basketball for 3X3 and 5×5 per gender, Handball both boys and girls, Netball, Rugby 15’s and Hockey only boys.

Kenya’s gold medals were in Athletics both boys and girls, Lawn Tennis both boys and girls, Hockey girls only and  Volleyball both boys and girls.

During the closing ceremony at Huye Stadium in Rwanda, the Uganda secondary schools sports associations (USSSA) and also Federation of East Africa schools sports association (FEASSA) president Justus Mugisha thanked the Republic of Rwanda for hosting the 2023 FEASSSA Games. “Everything progressed well and according to the book. I want to hint at the transformation of Rwanda as a country. This is a lesson that each one of us ought to emulate. The students return home with tons of experience and knowledge. We appreciate the hospitality. From the bottom of my heart, I appreciate the level of organization. We yearn to make the East African region a hub of sports in Africa and today I want to confirm that Uganda will host the 2024 FEASSSA Games.” said Justus Mugisha.

According to the list seen by wallnetnews, a contingent consisting of 178 people will be at statehouse to meet the head of state, following the breakdown of officials only, Ministry of Education and Sports will be represented by 16 officials, Physical Education (PES) with 12 officials, Members of Parliament on Education committee those who were in Rwanda, National council of sports with two officials the chairman and General secretary, Association of secondary schools headteachers Union (ASSHU) with three officials, Uganda secondary schools sports association (USSSA) with twenty-five (25) and Uganda schools  primary sports and games association (USPSGA) with only two (2).

Meanwhile, for schools with headteachers and students are 113 in total and among the schools that will be present include; Kibuli secondary school, St Marys secondary school -Kitende, Kakungulu memorial school, Buddo secondary school, St Noa girls school, Rubaga girls school, Sacred Heart -Gulu, Heritage of St Stephen primary school,, Bukedea comprehensive school, Mbogo college school, Kawanda secondary school, Mbogo High school, Namugongo Vocational and secondary school, Standard High school -Zaana, Wampewo Ntake school, Samaritan primary school, Kawempe Muslim senior secondary School, Amus College school-Bukedea, Mbogo Mixed school, Nabisunsa girls school, Kiira college Butiiki, St Mary’s college -Kisubi, Makerere college school, St Henry’s college -Kitovu, Jinja secondary school, Elite High school, Gombe secondary school, Kinaawa high school, Seroma Christian High School, Ngora high school, Bombo army secondary school, St Elizabeth girls school-Mbarara, Swimming and Athletics teams.
