Lady Cranes off to Tunisia for Africa Women’s 7s

 

Uganda women’s national rugby 7s team, Lady Cranes have on Tuesday morning departed for Jammel, Tunisia ahead of the Africa Women’s 7s scheduled for 29 and 30 April 2022.

This comes after the Uganda men’s team, Cranes won the Rugby Africa Men’s title at Kyadondo Rugby Club in Kampala over the weekend.

The Lady Cranes team (provisional) has recently been training at Wankulukuku and the traveling party are in good shape for the showpiece.

The tournament is a qualifier for the Commonwealth Games and the women’s 7s Rugby World Cup with the global showpiece set to be held in Cape Town, South Africa in September 2022 and the former set for July in Birmingham.

For the World Cup, South Africa already qualified (as hosts) but one additional African team will get a slot based on performance. Only one ticket is available for the Commonwealth Games.

Uganda will be joining nine teams in the competition.

Uganda are seeded in Pool B alongside neighbors Kenya and Zambia.

Pool A has South Africa, Senegal and Zimbabwe whilst Pool C has hosts Tunisia, Madagascar and Ghana.

Lady Cranes who finished fifth in the previous edition of the Africa women’s 7s held in Tunis in 2019 will seek to return to the World Cup since 2018 having made their debut in 2008.
