The police in Kisoro are investigating circumstances in which fake medical forms are being issued to driving permits seekers in the district headquarters. This was confirmed by the RDC Shafique Ssekandi.
The exercise of issuing driving permits to motorists started on Monday 16th January and ended on Saturday 21st January under the Uganda driving licensing system (UDLS) as one way of bringing the service closer to motorists.
However, during the process, public outcry was high especially from boda boda riders who claimed the process of getting permits was expensive due to medical and test fees.
Speaking to journalists in his office on Friday, RDC Ssekandi said that the security team has already discovered that it was due to middlemen that have been selling fake medical forms at Ugx30,000.
He confirmed that some fake medical forms have been confiscated and police have started investigations into the matter.
On the testing fees of Ugx100,000 per person, Ssekandi said that the fee is justified.
Security sources that preferred anonymity said that fake medical forms were being sold by some leaders of Kisoro united boda boda operators at their offices.
Ssekandi said that the exercise has attracted an overwhelming number of people averaging 150 people per day despite all the illegalities. He added that the exercise will be rescheduled for February 2023.
The Kisoro district vice chairperson, Alex Ndayambaje condemned the illegalities in the process. He demanded that all the money extorted be refunded back to the owners.
