Kisoro emyooga SACCOs among the worst performing countrywide

Kisoro – A number of Bufumbira East and Kisoro Municipality emyooga SACCOs have been ranked as the worst performing in Kisoro district. This was revealed by the Kisoro resident district commissioner during a general meeting with Emyoga SACCO leaders on Monday at the district council hall.
Among them include Bufumbira East youth emyooga SACCO, Bufumbira East Saloon operators, Bufumbira East elected leaders, Kisoro Municipality market vendors emyooga SACCO, Kisoro municipality performing artists and Kisoro Municipality tailors emyooga SACCO.
In the south, the worst performing group is Bufumbira south taxi operators SACCO while Bufumbira north Saloon operators is the only worst performing group in Bufumbira north constituency,
According to RDC, Shafique Ssekandi, only 14 SACCOs in Kisoro district have benefited from an extra funding of over Ugx20m per SACCO.
He noted that those that have benefited from extra funding are the best performing SACCOs in the district. They include, Bufumbira south performing artists, Bufumbira south produce dealers, Bufumbira east produce dealers, Bufumbira east boda bodas, Bukimbiri produce dealers, Kisoro municipality salon operators, Bufumbira north elected leaders, Bufumbira east women and Bukimbiri youth.
He slammed Kisoro municipality performing artists for failing to utilize the money on their account since September 2022.
He asked the SACCO leaders to ensure that their members utilize funds given to them because the government wants communities that have wellbeing.
He expressed dissatisfaction over high cases of default among several SACCOs, saying that leaders should get tougher on defaulters.
All SACCO chairpersons were given fresh registration forms to have them permanently registered so that they can be considered as entities that can sue and be sued. RDC Ssekandi said that it will reduce the recurring default cases among members.
Meanwhile, he also advised the SACCO leaders to always ask for mortgages to act from members as collateral while applying for loans.
