Rubanda – Investors in Kigezi have expressed concern over the sorry state of the Kabale-Bunyonyi tourism road and want to meet the president over the same matter.
Investors in Rubanda and Kabale districts have called upon the government to fulfil a 2001 presidential pledge to rebuild the Kabale-Bunyonyi tourism road.
During a stakeholders meeting at Kachwekano Zonal Agricultural Research and Development Institute in Bubaare town council, Nicholas Byengoma one of the Kigezi investors expressed concern over the sorry state of the road which they say is affecting tourism in the area.
Byengoma said the government of Uganda has done a lot of developments across the country but since 2001, Kabale-Bunyonyi tourism road was promised to be constructed but surprisingly up to now nothing to show on ground.
Byengoma further revealed and expressed concern about the Kigezi sub-region lawmakers for not lobbying for financial support to rehabilitate the poor road network in the region adding that they have been a done a disservice to the people of Kigezi.
In response Resident District Commissioners Godfrey Nyakahuma and Lillian Ruteraho of Kabale and Rubanda respectively, pledged to pass on the message to the president and assured residents of a positive response soon concerning the same matter because Kabale-Bunyonyi tourism road means a lot when it comes to foreign income generation for the country, not forgetting local trading business to the nearby areas.
