Impis’ Nsekuye dedicates Fortebet real stars award to teammates

Makerere Impis fly half Henry Nsekuye was named the rugby player for the month of January during the Fortebet Real Stars Sports Awards held today at Route 256 in Lugogo, Kampala.

Nsekuye beat competition from Platinum Credit Heathens srum half Aaron Ofoyrwoth and Stanbic Black Pirates Captain and fly half Ivan Magomu who were the other nominees.

Nsekuye (L) is joined on the podium by Shadir (2L), Mutesi (2R) and Lutaaya (R).

Nsekuye, by the end of January, was the league’s top scorer with 43 points and had claimed two man of the match awards, against Jinja Hippos and Plascon Mongers in the Nile Special Rugby Premier League.

Nsekuye who’s the current league points scorer with 51 points after four games, three ahead of Kobs’ Joseph Aredo says that he has been able to shine because of the contribution of his teammates who he recognized in his speech at the awards event.

“I dedicate this award to my teammates because without them I wouldn’t be here. Winning is about team work and that’s why I dedicate this award to them,” Nsekuye said.

“I am also grateful to Fortebet and the organizers of the awards, thanks for recognizing and appreciating the work of the athletes,” Nsekuye added.

Impis who are unbeaten in the league have 16 points, two behind leaders Pirates who are the other perfect side in the campaign. They face Rhinos on Saturday at Legends and Nsekuye says their aim is to take each game at a time.

“We are focused on Rhinos and we will treat them like any serious opponent. I don’t know what will happen but I’m hopeful that we will win the game. The boys have improved a lot and are sure of what they’re doing,” Nsekuye noted.

Meanwhile, the other winners of the January awards were; Rasheeda Mutesi (pool), Waleed Omar (motocross), Ronald Lutaaya (cricket) and Shadir Musa Bwogi (boxing).

Mutesi guided the Mukono Ladies Pool team to their first league trophy. They defeated Upper Volta 12-8 & Scrap Buyers 11-9. She became the first player to break and finish 3 games in one season in the Ladies League history.

For Omar, he won the highly competitive race (MX125CC) that had younger top racers Akena Obote, Milton Akaki, and Jeremiah Mawanda.

Lutaaya meanwhile managed 196 runs including a century, 13 sixes, and 18 fours in five innings and three catches at the recently concluded Waterfalls T20 League. He was also named tournament MVP.

Shadir Musa on the other hand beat Ivan Magumba by knockout in the fight that lasted for only two minutes and 51 seconds.
