There is still tension between Rwampara District Local Council Leaders and Legislator Amos Kankunda Akooki, the Rwampara County Member of Parliament over Ug shs 80,107,000 that was fundraised towards the construction of a maternity ward and Kinoni HC4 in Rwampara.
MP Kankunda is allegedly accused of refusing to hand over the said money that was collected to do the work that was meant to do at the facilty. That he did not put the money on District nor for the Health Center account.
From the fundraising function that took place on  16th July 2022 which was organized by MP Kankunda as the area MP, the public raised millions of money intending to construct a maternity ward at Kinoni HC4. But since then, different stakeholders are seeking for an explanation from the Legislator why the money has not yet done it’s purpose.

In the previous District Council meeting that was held  on 20th October 2023, Councilors tasked their Boss, the LC5 Chairman Richard Womugasho to write to MP Kankunda to come up and give a report about the fate of  the fundraising money. The chairman was also directed to summon him to attend a council meeting that sat on Thursday this week so that he can explain  to the council and the public why he has refused to release that money.
However,  the Legislator did not come up to attend the council meeting in person something that was regarded as arrogance and disrespecting the leaders of this local council. He instead delegated her Person Assistant to represent him in that Council.  This prompted the Speaker, Jotham Mwesigwa and Councilors to suspend/ chase one  Bashekye the PA for MP Kankunda and Doreen Kihembo, the PA for Molly Asiimwe the Woman MP Rwampara District.
Speaker Mwesigwa, said  that every council meeting they have always invited the MPs from Rwampara District but none of the attends. He said that this would be the very council meeting when they needed MP Kankunda to come and explain about the money issue but surprising he also shun the meeting.  Mwesigwa decided to suspend all the MPs’ Person Assistants with effect.
“We have issues from our constituencies that we would want share with Our MPs in such council meetings but you cannot find them. This business of sending their PAs here everyday must stop. As the district Speaker am suspending all the Political Assistants of the MPs with immediate effect, go and tell your Bosses that next time if they cannot  attend our council meetings then they should do not send the political Assistants here” said Mwesigwa, speaker Rwampara District.
He added that if MP Kankunda feels that Rwampara District Local council is not supposed to demand this money from him, let the public or those people that contributed their money on fundraising demand the said money from him themselves.
During the Council meeting, the LC5 Chairman reported to council about the response from MP Kankunda who said in the letter that the money fundraised was not meant for construction but rather was meant for refubishing the maternity ward.  He said that his role was to pattern with Rotary club of Kororo and other development partners towards equipping the facility in question to the completion for the good of society.
He further revealed that the said money was deposited on account in Kinoni Millennium SACCO in 2022 on account number 8001943 saying that the money is safe and will do it’s purpose.
