FUFA Drum Semis: West Nile Pitted Against Acholi, Tooro Face Off Lango

The 2022 FUFA Drum tournament draws of for the semi finals were held on Wednesday Morning at FUFA Complex with the remaining four provinces learning their opponents at the penultimate stage.

The function which was superintended over by FUFA Drum Organizing Committee chairman, Rogers Byamukama saw Tooro Province pitted against Lango while defending champions Acholi with West Nile.

Byamukama applauded the provinces for the journey so far, indicating the third edition has moved on smoothly since the start.

“I want to thank all the 16 Provinces that were part of this tournament from the start. As we get closer to the end, we believe this championship has continued to grow in leaps and bounds.

The return of the FUFA Drum after a two-year halt has been treated to great reception, there has been passion, excitement and I believe the remaining games will offer more,” said Byamukama.

But cautioned fans against stadium violence, stating FUFA will not hesitate to take action against those promoting the vice.

“We experienced some cases of violence after the game between Buganda and Acholi in Luweero but we want to caution fans against this vice. FUFA condemns such actions and we will take action against anyone who promotes violence,” he added.

The semifinals will be played on a home and away basis with the winner on aggregate advancing to the final.

Tooro Province will host Lango on November 20th in the first leg before the two teams face off in the return leg on December 18th at Akii-Bua Stadium, Lira city, while the other semifinal fixture, the 2018 finalists West Nile will host the first leg against reigning champions Acholi on November 13th with the return leg slated for December 10th.

The final this time will be played on a home and away basis, just like it was the case in the inaugural edition of 2018. The dates for the final have been tentatively set on January 7th and 14th 2023.

Meanwhile, both Tooro and West Nile provinces had representatives at the draw function and Fred Ade – FUFA Delegate and vice chairman West Nile said; “We are prepared to face any team that comes our way. The fact that we are starting at home, I believe we can wrap up this contest against Acholi at home before travelling to Gulu.”

 

Tom Bright Amooti – Member of Parliament Kyaaka Central and Tooro Province Chairperson had to say, “It is our first time to reach this level and we are thankful for everyone that has been behind this great journey.

We are now representing the whole western region and we call on our brothers from Rwenzori and Ankole to rally behind us. I believe we have what it takes to overcome Lango and progress to the final.”
