ARUA. Alice Akello, the former Arua Resident City Commissioner (RCC) has been praised for the good work done.

Akello was praised during a farewell party organized by a section of residents, business community and leaders of Arua city at Slumberland hotel in Arua city on Tuesday.

All this was done in appreciation of the service she rendered in the city for nearly five years. Akello was recently replaced by Charles Icogor in a mini reshuffle late last month.

However, Akello’s farewell party was the first of its kind for an RDC/RCC in the history of Arua.

“I want to say, this is the first of its kind since we started getting RDCs here, it is the first time we are getting to be part of a team saying thank you and say move well. This is the first of its kind and I think it has not come out of the blue. It’s out of the heart and quality of service that you rendered that we were part. We want to say thank you for your service, we want to say thank you for your heart,” Moses Obeta, the chairperson of Arua business community said.

Obeta urged Akello to keep the good heart for humanity and love wherever she will be going next.

Lila Keshwala, the Arua Indian community chairperson said as Indians in Arua city, they enjoyed a very cordial working relationship with Akello and wished her well in her next endeavors.

“Akello was the best RDC/RCC we have ever worked with here in Arua. We are a group which is observing whoever is working for the best of this country and Akello is one of them. As a result, we have given her a certificate of appreciation. Madam RCC, this is one of your tools that will lead you wherever you will go,” Jabir Andiga, a member of West Nile Effort for Museveni said during the function.

Malon Avutia, the Ayivu Division Mayor said they have moved with Akello for all this journey where she has also suffered all sorts of negative energy.

“When you leave an office when you are still alive, when you leave an office when people still love you, when you leave an office when you can still hold your peace, God is with you! We have moved with you all this time; you have also suffered. In my heart, Mama, you go and rest,” Avutia said.

Sam Wadri Nyakua, the Arua city Mayor said he knows Akello as a resilient person who is very prayerful and doesn’t quarrel.

In her remarks, Akello thanked the people of Arua city for the farewell party which she said shows the love they have for her.

“There is time for everything. There was time for me to come to Arua city and time for me to go. This period that I came and the time I’m going has a lot in the Kingdom of God. When I was coming to Arua, I was totally discouraged by some people, but I sneaked to come. I started moving around talking with people and I found out that the people of Arua were very peaceful, there was nothing wrong with them,” Akello said.

“So, when I was transferred, I was thinking of sneaking the way I sneaked to come here but God has said no, you served my people, they love you, you are not going to sneak, they are going to see you off. So, I want to thank you and I want to tell you that I owe you a debt for the love you have shown me,” Akello added.

The function was graced by religious leaders from different denominations including Sheik Shaban Abujafar, the Arua Muslim District Khadi who prayed for Akello for God’s blessings in accomplishing her next assignments.
