30 Rukiga District SACCOs each receive UGX25M PDM money

Rukiga – Ugx25m Parish Development Model money meant for for 30 SACCOs have so far been wired to the respective accounts in Rukiga district.
This was revealed by Asiimwe John, the Rukiga district Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) on Friday during the district budget conference for the financial year 2023/2024 at Rukiiko hall.
In his report Asiimwe said that on the schedule to implementation of Parish Development Model activities, over 601 enterprise groups have been formed and trained ahead of having 30 PDM SACCOs registered plus having their bank accounts.
He further said that in the financial year 2022/23 all the 30 SACCOs in the district received Ugx25m each on their accounts, 12 PDM SACCOs which had received Ugx17m and another 1 SACCO which received Ugx9.1m in FY2021/22 all totaling to Ugx963, 177, 269 by the end October 2022.
Speaking with Wallnetnews, the district chairperson Robert Kakwereere said that it’s true the monies are on the SACCOs accounts waiting for the SACCOs to have their 1st annual general meeting as one of the regulation of the cooperatives before money is withdrawn for development purposes.
The Deputy RDC Rukiga district Zadock Kamusiime said that at times their hands are tied to handle some of the things at the district level waiting for the central government to implement.
Kamusiime also highlighted that there are very many service delivery gaps at the sub-county levels where a lot of money is spent and nothing much is done.
He told the sub-county and town council chairpersons that they need to get their books of accounts ready as they may at times ascend to those levels to check BOQs, quarterly work plans, their bank statements and others.
Speaking on behalf of the Rukiga district development partners, the western Uganda international crane foundation (ICF) field officer Phionah Orishaba appreciated Rukiga district local government for always responding to their call, and for supporting the foundation in every aspect.
Among other development partners represented were; Action For Development (ACFODE), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), ROTOM Uganda, the National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) among others.
