The Uganda boxing federation (UBF) national novice championship 2023 action has kicked off today Monday at Lugogo outside grounds.
Over 800 boxers registered for this year’s edition will be exchanging jabs, upper-cuts, cross, overhead and straight punches in the one-week championship that climaxes this weekend on Saturday, December 2nd 2023.
The championship activity started with a technical meeting, then medical checkup and weigh-in was held over the weekend on Sunday, November 26th and action starting today, Monday, November 27th 2023.
UBF President Moses Muhangi talking to wallnetnews says that every approved member club presented its boxers at this year’s championship and it was fully sponsored by Uganda boxing federation.
“We went for open space for our fans to enjoy both proceedings on the two boxing rings, as UBF we were overwhelmed by the big number of registered boxers compared to the previous novice editions,” said Muhangi.
This year with the little funds we are having, we decided to have it in open space at Lugogo and the finals will be at the indoor MTN arena.
“To minimize the fans and to cover some of the expenses during the competition at least fans will part with 5000 for entrance and am happy they have responded well, coming in big numbers to drum up support for the boys and girls, We are working hand in hand with police and other security agencies to ensure safety. We expect the best boxing and the winners will qualify for the intermediate championship,” he added.
As he Muhangi promised during his time as Uganda boxing federation president is to make Uganda’s golden sport great again and currently boxers are battling it out in eleven (11) bouts; Light Heavy, Light Weight, Super-Heavy, Middle, Light -Welter, fly, Batam, Heavy, Cruiser, Light -Middle and Feather.
