UPC Government was better than NRM – Kisoro LC5 Boss

The Kisoro district LC5 chairperson, Abel Bizimana has praised the past regime of Apollo Milton Obote saying, he performed better than the current NRM regime. He made the remarks on Wednesday during World Teacher’s day celebrations held at Nyakinama Seed School in Nyakinama sub-county.

According to Abel Bizimana, Uganda Peoples Congolese (UPC) government led by Appolo Milton Obote performed better than NRM government led by President Museveni.

He credited UPC regime for registering infrastructural development like good hospitals, schools among others that are still standing despite the low level of technology by then.

He said that the current NRM government is full of masqueraders who always put on yellow shirts to dupe President Museveni.

Abel Bizimana said that MPs should be put to task to debate on issues affecting residents than focusing on their own interests. His speech received a lot of cheers from teachers who had gathered to celebrate their day.

Abel Bizimana praised Obote for constructing several houses to give teachers decent accommodation. He emphasized that nowadays no one is willing to defend interests of the fountain of honour because most government workers are receiving little pay.

Speaking during the celebrations under the theme “the transformation of education begins with teachers”, the UNATU Kisoro main branch chairperson, Matata Alex highlighted some of the challenges that teachers are facing including frustration, humiliation and demotivation due to salary segregation. He also hinted on challenges teachers are facing due to high prices of all goods and services on the market.

 

Mr. Matata Alex further dismissed rumors that they were bribed to call off the strike.

He called such rumors totally wrong and absolutely void. He clarified that the industrial action on salary disparities for three weeks from 15th to 29th June 2022 was suspended because of security issues. He also blamed them for giving a  deaf ear on negotiations about salary enhancement of arts teachers.

The Kisoro district LCV chairperson Abel Bizimana noted that President Museveni was misled on salary disparities. He said that all civil servants deserve salary enhancement to cope up with the current economy.

Minister Sarah Mateke who officiated at the function praised teachers for the good work they are doing in fighting illiteracy from communities.

She asked teachers to love their job and encourage learners to embrace education so that they can be responsible citizens in the future. She informed teachers that negotiations on enhancement of arts teachers’ salaries are still ongoing.

She also advised teachers to desist from being victims of multiple loans asking them to put projects that will provide them side some income.
