Rukungiri Mayor Makuru Sued for Torture allegations

Rukungiri–The Magistrate Court in Rukungiri District has set 26th of November 2022, to hear the case of alleged torture by Rukungiri municipality mayor Charles Makuru that he exerted on a one Elias Murangira who was an employee at Mugarura General hardware located at Kifunjo along Kifunjo Road, Kyatoko in Eastern Division Rukungiri Municipality.
According to the affidavit seen by Wallnetnews, on the 12th day of August 2022, the applicant was working at his employer’s hardware shop called located at Kifunjo along Kifunjo Road, Kyatoko in Eastern Division Rukungiri Municipality.
The respondent invited him to come to his car but as soon as he approached the car, Makuru pulled him to his side and started beating him.
It added that, the respondent beat the applicant badly that if it was not the intervention of his fellow workers, he would have killed him which matter he reported to Rukungiri Police Station where he was immediately referred to the hospital for medical treatment first.
The applicant received the treatment which costed him around Ugx500,000 but despite reporting the matter to Police no action has been taken against the respondent who continues to walk scot-free.
To which the applicant described conduct and acts as described, violated and infringment on his constitutional rights to freedom from torture, cruel, degrading and inhumane treatment contrary to Articles 24 and 44 of the Constitution for which he prays for general damages and aggravated/punitive damages. He seeks justice to be served from Court.
