
Kabale Municipal Council relocates tenants, vendors to newly constructed central market

Kabale municipal council has started the process of relocating tenants and vendors from the temporary places to the newly constructed Kabale central modern market.
The construction of the market currently which is at 99 percent completion, started in December 2018 at the tune of Ugx23b, constructed under Kabale the Markets and Agricultural Trade Improvement program – MATIP III project with funding from the African Development Bank and the government of Uganda.
Before the construction started, vendors were temporarily shifted to Kigongi market which was initially Kabale Police barracks playground while others were taken to Mwanjari market which was the municipal cemetery and others rented from different areas within the municipality.
Speaking to our reporter, the Town Clerk Kabale Municipality Justine Barekye said that the Municipal council leaders Friday held a meeting at the municipal council headquarters with officials the from ministry of local government, and heads of 16 sections of vendors for proper preparations.
She stressed that effective Monday next week up to a period of two weeks, they will display registers indicating vendors who will occupy the market and the lists will be put at the municipal council notice board, at the new market, and Kigongi market.
She added that the municipal council will have a complaints desk where vendors will bring their complaints about the lists. Barekye said that they expect to occupy the market by 15th December 2022.
