Kabale LC5 boss wants next governor to come from Kigezi sub-region – Wallnetnews Uganda

Kabale district LC5 chairperson Nelson Nshangabasheija has challenged the president to choose the next governor Bank of Uganda from the Kigezi sub-region.
Nshangabasheija made these remarks on Monday while addressing the media while delivering his new year’s message in Kabale town.
Nshangabasheija said that the late governor Tumusiime Emmanuel Mutebile died before finishing his term of office and the president should have mercy on Kigezi sub-region by choosing the next governor in from the sub-region.
He added that the nation is now finishing a year without a governor of the Central Bank and as a political leader in Kabale district, the president should intervene.
“The late governor died before finishing his term. I really request our good president, our parent to choose the governor from Kigezi because our term was just beginning,” Nshangabasheija said.
The late governor of Bank of Uganda Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile died at the age of 72 on 23rd January 2022 from Nairobi Hospital in Kenya.
Mutebile was admitted to Nairobi Hospital after he collapsed due to complications related to diabetes. He had been in and out of hospital in the recent years mainly in Uganda and India, with sources at the bank pointing to diabetic-related illnesses, which led to kidney failure before his demise.
Prof. Mutebile, was a seasoned professional economist who served as governor and chairman Board of Directors of Bank of Uganda since 2001, and had just started a new term of office after being reappointed in 2021 by president Museveni.
He was the longest serving governor in the history of the country post-independence.
