Kabale – Maj. Gen. Timothy Sabiti Mutebile has urged students to respect the four pillars of education which are government, teachers , parents and their fellow children if they are to become successful in their studies,and become important people in future.
He made these remarks on Wednesday as he joined teachers at Smile Africa Junior school to celebrate World teacher’s day as the guest of honor at school premises in Mwanjari Ward southern division Kabale municipality.
He implored the people in the community to support unfortunate children to ensure that they get basic education, saying that government has tried its best to bring these children to the standard through UPE and USE but has not yet gone down to the nursery section, saying that many children at this level are stuck.
He called upon parents to play their role of paying school fees especially those in private schools in time so that the directors can get what to pay teachers, saying that teachers are the second parents.
Gen. Mutebile thanked teachers for tirelessly working for the nation regardless of their little pay, and called upon them to continue serving their country.
The Director of Smile Africa Junior School Mrs. Nahabwe Violah called upon the public to respect, value and motivate teachers if they want them to produce quality and knowledgeable children who will help the nation in future, saying that teachers are a special caliber of people in the nation.
She added that everyone is what they are because of the efforts of teachers, and that the nation can’t develop without them.
She called upon government to give support to private schools through providing teaching materials like books for both teachers and students, and also to increase salaries for those in government schools, saying that teachers are considered the poorest group in the nation.
